If your travel plans have changed after submitting your UK ETA application, you may be wondering whether you need to update your arrival date or submit a new application.

You can’t change your arrival date on a UK ETA once the application is submitted, but the good news is that you usually don’t need to, because the ETA isn’t tied to specific travel dates. Here’s what you need to know.

What you need to know

According to the UK government’s official ETA guidance on GOV.UK, once a UK ETA application is submitted, your information cannot be edited.

The ETA is digitally linked to your passport and remains valid for 2 years, allowing multiple entries, as long as your passport stays valid.

This means that you don’t need to update your arrival date, and your ETA remains valid as long as your passport and personal details are still correct.

However, if the change in dates is beyond your ETA expiry date, or if any personal information has changed, additional steps may be required.

Changing your UK ETA arrival date after you’ve applied

You can’t modify your arrival date once the application is submitted, but the good news is:

  • The UK ETA does not lock you to a specific arrival date.

  • You can enter the UK at any time within the ETA validity period, regardless of the original date you entered during the application process.

  • Your updated travel plans will not affect your ETA validity as long as your details match your passport and identity information.

When you do need a new ETA:

  • If your new travel dates fall outside the two-year validity period.

  • If you accidentally entered incorrect personal details (name, passport number, date of birth).

  • If your passport has changed or will change before traveling.

  • If your travel purpose is different from what you originally indicated.

Tips to avoid delays in your UK ETA application

The iVisa experts recommend the following to avoid issues and reapplying:

  • Review all details carefully as even a small typo may require a brand-new application.

  • Ensure your passport is valid for the duration of your trip. We always recommend at least six months’ validity beyond your planned departure date.

  • Apply at least a week in advance so you have time to correct mistakes or reapply if needed.

  • Keep your passport and travel information on hand during the application to avoid entering outdated info.

If your travel plans change after submitting, don’t worry, your UK ETA is still valid unless your passport details have changed.
