How to take the perfect passport scan for your application?

If you are applying for a travel document, your passport scan is key during the application process because it helps to identify your personal information and identity.

Passport scan requirements

Your passport scan normally needs to show your passport data page. This page contains the information in the image below.

📌 Make sure all the information listed is clear and matches the information you wrote on your application form.

📌 Your passport data page needs to be in color with no glares, blurs, or obstructions covering the information.

📌 If you are uploading the scan on the iVisa application form take into consideration we only accept PDF, JPEG, or PNG formats.

📌 Your passport scan can’t be expired. We advise you to have a passport that is at least 6 months valid from your intended arrival date.

How to take a scan of your passport?

To take the perfect passport scan, you have two options.

Option 1: Go to a specialized place where they can take the scan for you.

Option 2: Take the scan yourself. If you’re doing it yourself, we prepared a special tutorial. In this tutorial, you can check all the steps you need to take the perfect passport scan:

Extra tips

Some other factors could come in handy to make your passport scan even better:

  • Make sure that the page of your passport is flat against a smooth surface to avoid curves that may distort the image. Ideally, go for a clean white surface.

  • Take the picture from above and avoid creating shadows.

  • Take a picture during the day in front of a window to get the best natural and even lighting. You can get the best light at 12pm.

  • Make sure nothing is blocking the entire view of the passport. Scans with fingers or any object blocking any part of the passport will not be accepted.

How to upload your passport scan on the iVisa application form?

This is a guide in case you have already paid for your travel document and want to upload your passport scan on your application. If you haven’t applied for your travel product yet, haven’t paid it yet, or have missing information on your form, you can check these articles:

Step 1

Make sure you are in your account with your application form displayed.

Step 2

On the left side, you will see the sections of your application you need to complete. Fill them out before uploading your passport scan.

Step 3

Once you filled them out, select the documents section.

Step 4

After you select the documents section, a list of required documents you’ll need to upload will appear on the right side of the form.

  • Click on the “Add document” button.

  • Before uploading, read the instructions to submit a government-compliant passport scan. When you’re ready, click on the “Upload” button.

  • To upload your passport scan, you can either:

  1. Select a file from your computer.

  2. Select a file from your phone, using a QR code.

  • Once you’ve selected your document, click on the “Save and close” button.

That’s it! After uploading your passport scan, you can continue uploading the rest of your documents and submit your application.

In case you need to present your passport scan, we advise you to follow these tips:
